Why do I notice a scent after unboxing?

Some people will notice a certain smell when unboxing their new bed. Whether you will notice it or not depends on your own sensibility to odors, but rest assured, the "new bed" scent is not in any way harmful for you and your little ones. We know how surprising it can be, and we do understand your concern, so here's all you need to know regarding this "new bed" scent.

Why can you notice a smell?

The paints/varnishes that we use to cover your bed parts are non-toxic, water-based and eco-friendly. They do not contain any VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and they are made to dry instantly, which means that all parts of the bed do not rest in the workshop after being painted.

Since painting is the last step of fabrication and UV-paint does not require drying time, your bed parts were packaged right after being painted, and shipped immediately afterwards. Therefore, on some beds, a certain scent can be "imprisoned" in the packaging, and take a few hours up to a few days to disappear, since the bed may have spent a few weeks in its box before it reaches your home.

Although we understand that this can be an unpleasant inconvenience, we confirm that the "new bed" scent does not represent any danger to you or your child.

Furthermore, you might be interested to know that all our products are ASTM F963-17 certified, which is the certification required specifically for products intended for use by children. That means all our products, whether they're toys or furniture, are carefully tested to meet the highest quality standards in terms of absence of chemical  and toxic components, safety of use and durability of materials, amongst other things.

What can you do to make the scent go away faster?

  • Let the bed air. Open the boxes upon delivery and let the bed air for a few days before beginning assembly. Airing out the bed parts in a cool, dry and well-ventilated space will help.
  • Gently clean the bed with a soft soap. This will help with the "new bed" scent, but also with making sure it brings no unwanted dust to the room!
